Why The Military Workout Has Become The Fitness Technique
If you are looking to get fit, then a Military Workout is one of THE most effective exercise programmes you can undertake. Let us face it, the military have been taking raw recruits and churning out fighting machines at the peak of the physical fitness. All this achieved with straightforward, basic exercises that we can all do.
The beauty of a military workout is that it can be done anywhere, in the park, at home or down the gym. You can undertake an army fitness programme on your own, or in a group. The other great factor of military style training, is that it can be adpated to any fitness level. Whether you have a couch potato, new recruit level of fitness, or are already fit and want a full on Navy SEAL workout.
So what does it consist of? Well, initially one should assess one’s existing fitness level, so you know what level to start the training. The army have a basic test, that is broadly similar whether you are in the US Army or British Army. Try this straightforward test. First, do as many press-ups in two minutes as you can, and make a note. Then, as many sit-ups you can in two minutes. Then do a 5K run and record your time. If you search online you find what the ideal level of fitness is in relation to your age. There are even Android Apps and iPhone Apps that help make this calculation.
A Military workout is all about building stamina, and strength and it is this that gives you all round fitness. So a programme will normally consist of 20-30 mins of circuit training, say a minute of press ups, rest, minute of sit-ups, rest, then dips, rest and so on for twenty to thirty minutes. Then the nexy day a 20 min run.
Over time the length of training will increase, and you can include cycling, running and swimming. None of this involves any complicated equipment, and can be achieved by most people.
